Problem: A seafood processor in Central Mexico was experiencing extremely high nitrogen usage and insufficient throughput from their nitrogen tunnel. The freezer model was obsolete by current standards, and the freezer manufacturer not able to support or modify the system. The equipment broker (who sold the freezer) contacted Cryogenic Systems Equipment for help.

After an onsite visit and review of the situation, it was clear that the processor was using two to three times the amount of nitrogen of newer systems.

Solution and Results: CSE’s broad knowledge of cryogenic principles and design quickly identified the shortcomings of the system and how they could be improved. A controlled vapor flow system coupled with changes to the liquid nitrogen storage and supply system quickly and inexpensively reduced the nitrogen consumption by 50%. Training of plant personnel in proper freezer operating procedures and maintenance both increased production and further reduced freezing cost.
